Last trip on the Melville
I’m out at sea on my last trip sailing for Scripps. I’m training a new computer tech this cruise - hope he likes it. We’re sailing from Fiji to Honolulu, then I’m out of here. The weather started out pretty rough, but it’s significantly better today.
Today is groundhog day, as we decided to do the date rollback from our dateline crossing at midnight last night. We got two Sundays out of the deal. Tonight we lose an hour, so we will have gone from GMT +12 hours to GMT -12 hours to GMT -11 hours in 48 hours. Got all that?
Fiji was nice. Viti Levu, the main island, is pretty big, so it has more of a land mass feeling to it than Tahiti did. There’s actually room for farmland in the interior of the island.
I didn’t go too far while I was in Fiji - I was really too tired from working two jobs and trying to sell a house to make a lightening fast 4 day run around the various islands. Instead, I stayed at a place outside of Suva called the Raintree Lodge, which has a couple of ponds on the grounds and is surrounded by rain forest. My biggest activities were sleeping, hiking in the rainforest near the park, swimming in waterfalls, and more sleeping.
