Pirate Postings on Pop Culture and Scurvy

Random sputterings on travel, midgets, too much salt water, and of course scurvy. Yarr.

First ride in a month

I figured this would happen - I’d finish the Solvang Century and then let my bike collect dust in the garage. True to form, my road bike has sat unloved in the corner, with mud still on the tires from the parking area behind the hotel. After the wonderful weather there in Solvang (where 45% of all registered riders did not actually do the ride), both Steve and I were sick as dogs for several weeks.

I finally felt healthy enough to go for a ride this past week, but decided instead to bring out my mountain bike and hit Spring Canyon at Mission Trails Regional Park with my friend Dan. The recent rain has knocked all of the dust down and smooth out most of the ruts, though some of the dry creek crossings are a bit rough. The canyon lived up to it’s name - all of the wildflowers were in full bloom. Now I’ve actually got a bit of a sunburn out of the deal.

So glad spring’s here…
