I’m not one who can make up a smoothly delivered “elevator speech” easily. At the moment, it basically amounts to “I make lights blink in a closet.” This doesn’t exactly serve to impress, but figuring out what details to put down on a seemingly innocuous page is a bit tough.
If you haven’t already gathered from the URL, my name is Geoff. I live in San Diego, California, about 30 miles from Mexico. Born and raised in northern California, I’ve moved my way southward and have now found myself out of California.
My interests include biking, both road and mountain, working on cars, music, and technology in general. I enjoy being outdoors and love coming home covered in dirt and grime. I used to be a fairly active off-roader, but I’ve found that fixing my bike is much cheaper than fixing my truck, and it’s far more satisfying to say that I made it up to the top of the mountain under my own power.
At the moment, I work as a systems administrator and occaisional programer at the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. My main focus right now is implementation of data acquistion systems for seismic data for the Earthscope USArray project. Prior to this, I spent three years going to sea and travelling around the world as a shipboard computer tech at Scripps. My photo gallery contains a fair number of pictures from my travels.
